The year 2015 is the Birth Centenary year of Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity and also Birth Centenary year of Professor Sir Fred Hoyle. General Theory of Relativity is a revolutionary theory of the Universe. Professor Sir Fred Hoyle throughout his whole life gave revolutionary theories about the Universe and was exponent of popularization of science throughout the world.
The Indian Planetary Society is organizing an International Conference on Einstein’s Theory and the last full day of the Conference will be dedicated to Professor Sir Fred Hoyle. In this International Conference, scientists of National & International repute will give talks on various aspects of the Universe. The Transition from Earth-Centred Biology to Cosmic Biology
London, July 20, 2015 : Stephen Hawking: There is 'no bigger question' in science than the search for extraterrestrial life.
From the 2001 occurrence of Red Rain in Sri Lanka to the 2012 meteorite falls in the Polonnaruwa district some areas of astrobiology research has naturally been focussed on this island. Moreover, University of Ceylon Alumnus Vidya Jyothi Prof. Chandra Wickramasinghe being one of the pioneers of this subject, particularly in relation to panspermia, we consider an interdisciplinary conference to be a timely venture. Recent research in many diverse areas of science from microbiology, studies of comets and cometary dust in the stratosphere to the search for habitable extrasolar planets all point to the relevance of such a conference.
The University of Peradeniya recognizing the relevance and importance of this field is pleased to announce the 1st International Conference on Astrobiology to be held in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This conference will provide a timely forum for scientists not only from south Asia, but from around the world who work in the interdisciplinary field of astrobiology — the study of the origin, evolution, distribution, and future of life in the universe — to convene and report on research findings and plan future endeavours.
The field of Astrobiology is a new emerging field encompassing the study of the origin, evolution, distribution, and future of life in the universe: extraterrestrial life and its connection to life on Earth. This interdisciplinary field encompasses the search for habitable environments in our Solar System and habitable planets outside our Solar System, the search for evidence of prebiotic chemistry, laboratory and field research into the origins and early evolution of life on Earth, and studies of the potential for life to adapt to challenges on Earth and in outer space.

This specialist discussion on the history of astronomy will examine Fred's impact on all aspects of astrophysics and cosmology. Hoyle is noted primarily for the theory of stellar nucleosynthesis and his controversial stances on other cosmological and scientific matters - in particular his rejection of the "Big Bang" theory. The emphasis will be a retrospective of Hoyle's professional career in advancing astronomy, and his lasting contributions to astronomy. Hoyle's many honours include the RAS Gold Medal (1968), the Bruce Medal (1970), the Royal Medal (1974) and the Crafoord Prize (1997). He served as President of the Society 1971-73.
